Is there something wrong with me?

Spotify link:
Seriously, I know this is not normal.  This Danish cover of Lou Reed’s “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” just fills me with inexplicable mirth.  EVERY TIME.

I think it has a lot to do with that dopey smirk.  How can that face sing this song?  Unless it’s with an absurd Swedish Chef Nordic accent.  Is Denmark officially Nordic?  I don’t care.  I’m smiling right now.

Yes, this IS a cry for help.

Mao-Maoing the Flak Catchers

Video:

Ah, following the Thai ska with some deep Thai funk.  Or wait, no,..Mandarin?  No, it’s just some mad racist euro-hippie shouting.

Please tell me, is that real Chinese?  Because if so, maybe it’s a little less offensive.  But even then, there’s something bitterly mocking in the tone.

Well, bigotted buffoon or not, I LOVE Nino Ferrer.  I found his “le téléphone” 45 in Brussells.  It’s kind of a slow-stomping punchy Stax number that goes a bit Sergeant Pepper at the end.  Nice Scopitone on YouTube.  And then there’s “Alexendre”.  I’ll try to fit that in later.

The lyrics here are having a lot of fun with words that sound like Mao.  I love the reference to Maonaise.

Here’s the Google Translate version:

If I am fast and tricky
When I crossed my Mao
Told me a esquiMao
It is through the thoughts of Mao
While pleasure of love
Following enlightenment only lasts a very short
I say that a good Mao Following enlightenment
Worth two horns elephant
This is Mao Mao for that I'm against Liu Shao-Chi
I have my breviary of Revolutionary
In all dives Moa I drink red shifts
The red shift is the drink of the Red Guard
When I dine with Theresa
I take eggs hard Maonaises
Theresa is a gelati Maotta
The cat takes Maou for cats
The Sunday Automaobile
We will visit Sicily
Beaches and Maonuments
When we returned we are glad
This is Mao Mao for that I'm against Liu Shao-Chi
I have my breviary of Revolutionary
In all dives Moa I drink red shifts
The red shift is the drink of the Red Guard
If I like walking
It is because of the company
Protector of Animao
Who protects my Chamao
If the chromolithograph
Generates Maonotonie
The Maontagne it is good
And this is normal because it Normaond
Mr. Maorice was maordu
A bearded guitarist
Mr. Maorice is Maoribond
Gay gay dance the jig
If I am fast and tricky
When I crossed my Mao
