Surapon – Ding Dong
It's very hard to find out anything about Thai pop from the 60s. There's probably a lot of information in the liner notes to Thai Beat a Go Go Vol. 2, but that's one disadvantage of being a Spotify bum: What passes for liner notes is the odd review from allmusic.com, if it happens to exist. All I know is that Surapon was also known as The Fox--or at least, that's what I assume since there is another track here credited to "Surapon alias The Fox". (It's called "The Ghost of Catwoman". Did you know that pee is Thai for ghost?) The "ding ding dong" vocal riff sounds kind of like a whacked-out interpretation of Surfin' Bird (and all it's doo-wop predecessors). I sure wish I knew what the lyrics were about.
There are four Thai Beat a Go Go CD's, apparently put out by Swedish garage rocker Stefan Kery of The Stomachmouths. And there are other Thai pop compilations too. Thanks to Jess for tipping me off to this weird world.
